Connecting With Children On A Deeper Level In The Field Of Education Essay

Teaching English Every Matters

The Pat Thomas illustrators are focusing on those variables which are most important to children. This is because there are a host of challenges impacting their safety and quality of life. The most notable include: managing their emotions, family and security. These issues are directly related to the challenges are all children will face at some point in their lives. This book is designed to teach them what to watch out for and the best ways to troubleshoot these kinds of situations. (Thomas, 2002)

The books' colors are white with a yellow boarder. Inside, are specific images which underscore these factors. The biggest advantages for parents are the understanding the problems impacting children and how this is influencing them. The drawbacks are this advice is taking a one size fits all approach. This may not fully help parents to deal with these challenges, by failing to understand the experiences and personality of the child. (Thomas, 2002)

This book is looking at the stressors children will have. The most notable include: acceptance, understanding their emotions, relating with others, managing their weight and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. These different areas will have a direct influence on the way they...

The result is that parents and children can talk about these challenges in the future. This is when they understand how these issues will influence their attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. The combination of these factors will shape how they see themselves and the world around them. This is the point they can begin to effectively deal with these challenges in the longer term. Using Picture Books to Teach for Democracy

Picture books are effective in teaching children, by showing them how certain concepts are related to specific ideas. This helps them to have a better understand about what is occurring and the long-term impacts. Once this takes place, is the point these issues will become more pronounced. This is when they can learn more effectively by making a direction connection with these ideas. A good example of this can be seen with Wolk saying, "This vignette shows how picture books can engage children in dialogue about democracy and issues such as racism.
